Ekay’s train of thought is brought to a halt when he spots something strange on the roadway. Using the controlling rod, he rapidly jingles the set of chimes, indicating to the T-urchin cow to come to a halt. Ekay then calls out to his father in order to wake him up immediately and informs him of the situation.

Keen eyes may have noticed by now that the rod-type device with chimes acts as a sort of percussion instrument, which in turn controls the T-urchin cow. This indicates that T-urchin cows and their actions may be determined as a response to certain sounds, allowing the Eltus people use such tools as a manipulator for the strange urchin-like creatures.
